In November 2025, as part of Breet’s P2P research, we asked three people to test Gate.io P2P and record their trades. Here’s what two of them experienced.

My Experience Trading on Gate.io P2P: A Review

Hi, my name is Oluwafemi, and I participated in Breet’s P2P research by completing a set of transactions on Gate.io P2P platform. I carried out three trades in total. Here is a summary of what I experienced.

Gate.io P2P Verification Process

Before trading, I completed identity verification using my international passport. I carried this out on my PC, and the KYC process went through successfully.

First Trade on Gate.io P2P

For my first P2P sale, I did not receive the Kobo portion of the payment and the buyer indicated this was stated in his ā€œterms and conditionsā€, although he didn’t tell me this beforehand. (See screenshot below)

The payout itself was slow, and the trader was not responsive while the trade was ongoing. I attempted to reach out to the support team, but I didn’t receive a response at the time.

Since the dispute process wasn’t activated on the platform for this trade, I eventually completed the order on my end.

It took 15 minutes for the transaction to be marked as complete on the platform, and 12 minutes for the money to arrive in my bank account.

Second Trade on Gate.io P2P

My second trade went differently. In this case, I received the full payment, including the Kobo, and the payout came in quickly (within 2 minutes).

There were no issues with responsiveness during this transaction and the transaction was marked as completed on the platform in a minute.

Third Trade

For the third trade, the payout was also fast (within a minute), and communication with the trader was responsive. The only part I didn’t receive was the Kobo, but the main payment reflected without delays.

Overall Observation of my P2P Experience on Gate.ioĀ

Across the three transactions, each one followed a different pattern.

The first involved slower payout and limited communication, while the second and third transactions were faster and more responsive. The Kobo portion from my money was sent in one trade but not sent in the others.

My Experience Using Gate.io P2P: A Detailed Review of Three Transactions (Second Participant)

Hello my name is Ajoke, and here is a detailed review of my trading experience on Gate.io P2P marketplace.

Verification on Gate.io

My experience with Gate.io’s verification process started off rough. I tried to verify my identity using my driver’s license, but the system kept rejecting the picture. I had to take and upload the photo three different times before it finally got accepted.

What made it worse for me was that Gate.io did not specify what type of ID card was required.

There were no guidelines or examples. I was left to guess whether to use a passport, a national ID, or a driver’s license. That guesswork added unnecessary friction to something that should be straightforward.

Once I was finally verified, I moved on to trading, but the onboarding experience had already felt clunky for me.

First Trade on Gate.io P2P: What I didn’t Like

My first P2P transaction on Gate.io was frustrating from the very beginning. Here’s what stood out:

1. No resend button for the verification code

When I needed a code to continue the process, I realized there was no option to resend it. If the SMS or email didn’t arrive the first time, I was stuck. There was no way to trigger a new one.

2. The user experience felt chaotic

The UX was honestly terrible. Any time I clicked something, Gate.io opened new pages instead of letting me view details in the same window.

To get back to where I originally was, I had to keep tapping the back button. For a first-time user, it was confusing and overwhelming.

3. Finding the right seller was stressful

I wanted to sell within a specific price range, so I began scrolling through the list of buyers. There was no obvious filter or sorting method that would help me quickly find traders matching my target range.

It got so confusing that I had to contact a friend for guidance.

4. The trade page closed on its own

Just as I was about to sell USDT to a trader, the entire page closed.

There was no pop-up message, no error notification, nothing. It simply disappeared and left me wondering what went wrong.

5. My account was restricted for 24 hours

During a routine account setup update, Gate.io restricted my account for a full day. This felt extreme, particularly because there was no clear explanation of what triggered the restriction.

However, there were a few things I genuinely liked…

Despite the rough experience, Gate.io did a few things right:

  • The speed of the actual transaction was impressive
  • There was no back-and-forth messaging with the seller
  • The countdown timer created transparency by showing exactly how much time the seller had left to complete payment

These helped reduce anxiety during the transaction, even though getting to that point was stressful.

Trade 2: A Short Payment and a Curious Experiment

gate.io p2p review

For my second trade, I intentionally chose a trader with a lower rating because I wanted to see how different the experience would be.

It didn’t take long to find out.

The payout the trader sent was ₦140 less than what the P2P rate specified. When I asked the trader about it, he claimed it was a mistake. (screenshot below)

I did receive the rest of my money eventually, but the experience confirmed why ratings matter so much on P2P platforms.

The platform itself didn’t flag or prevent the short payment, so it’s up to the user to be vigilant.

Trade 3 on Gate.io P2P: A Trader With 100% Rating Makes All the Difference

My third transaction was the complete opposite of the previous ones. I chose a trader with a 100% rating, and the difference was immediately noticeable.

The payout was extremely fast and the money arrived within 2 minutes. No issues, no delays, and no confusion. It was the smoothest experience I had in comparison to the other trades.
