If you’ve followed Breet long enough, you already know we like to mind our business…
Until it comes to doing good. Then we show up like it’s product launch day.
So for International Men’s Month and World Diabetes Day, we decided to do something small-but-big: Get men to check their health.
Because let’s be honest, men can be interesting.
They will Google “bitcoin price today” three times a day, but won’t check their blood pressure for three years.
So we said, “You know what? Let’s take the mountain to Moses.”
The Plan
We partnered with an NGO. Packed our kits. Grabbed our doctor.
Headed to National Stadium, Surulere, because where else do men gather to intentionally stress themselves?
The agenda was straightforward:
- Free blood pressure checks
- Free blood sugar tests
- One-on-one consultations
- A small talk on mental health, stress, and actually taking care of your body
- A fitness session with an instructor (this one didn’t later hold, gist later)
The goal was to reach 200 men.
The Actual Experience
Each person first got their vitals checked.
Then sat with the doctor for small but direct talks:
- “Your blood sugar is high, reduce soft drinks.”
- “You’re stressed, rest small. Life is not running away.”
- “Check yourself regularly; guesswork is not a health plan.”
Some of them even opened up about mental health, which you don’t see every day.
Many men don’t talk, unless it’s football or Nigeria causing them heartbreak.
Afterwards, we shared fruit salad packs and water. Healthy lifestyle starter pack.
Small World Moment
Somewhere in the middle of all this, a man walked up to our stand:
“Are you people the Breet I use? Your app is solid.”
Nothing is sweeter than such feedback when you’re sweating under the hot sun.
Two others also got curious about our invoicing feature; their details are already with the team for follow-up.
The Best Part
The men kept saying something funny:
“Ahh, thank you o. Everything is always for women. Finally, something for us.”
And they meant it.
You could see the excitement, like someone remembered them for the first time since Father’s Day (and even Father’s Day sef… let’s not talk about it).
Conclusively
Did we hit 200? No. We reached 120.
Did we do good work? Absolutely.
Did the men appreciate it? 100%.
We showed up. We helped. We created awareness.
We reminded men that “health is wealth” is not just a motivational quote, it’s real.
And Breet will always show up where it matters, on your phone, and in your community.
